Guilt? Fear? Or the desire to prove that it isn\u2019t true?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, the word itself <strong>\u00abweakness\u00bb<\/strong> causes almost physical discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re not just afraid of hearing it from others. We\u2019re even afraid to think that way about ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But have we ever really stopped to think \u2013 what is weakness?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the decades, society has cultivated a very clear image of the \u00abproper\u00bb person: someone who doesn\u2019t cry, doesn\u2019t complain and doesn\u2019t ask for help. They endure. They work. They persevere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were taught to survive. We were taught to be strong, composed and accommodating towards others. But few people taught us to be aware of ourselves \u2014 our feelings, our boundaries, our tiredness and our needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people remember phrases that have almost become part of the culture: \u00abDon\u2019t whinge\u00bb, \u00abDon\u2019t be a wimp\u00bb, \u00abYou\u2019re strong, aren\u2019t you?\u00bb, \u00abYou\u2019ve got to put up with it\u00bb, \u00abYou could make nails out of these people\u2026\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We grew up believing that strength is the ability to put others before oneself. And we often saw this exemplified by those closest to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gradually, the renunciation of one\u2019s own needs began to be regarded as a virtue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And looking after oneself is seen as a sign of selfishness or weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This is how what is now often referred to as the \u2018strong person syndrome\u2019 gradually takes shape.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know people whom those around them describe as strong. They work hard, look after others and manage to keep their composure even in the most difficult situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are the first to come to the rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they almost never ask for it for themselves \u2013 but not because they don\u2019t need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a choice without a choice: I help everyone because I can\u2019t do otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps you recognised yourself in this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, strength ceases to be merely a character trait. It becomes a role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And one day, you no longer know who you are without that role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We\u2019ve learnt to cope, but have we learnt to live?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, we have become true masters of endurance \u2013 ignoring our tiredness, carrying on working when we\u2019ve almost no strength left, smiling when we\u2019re hurting inside, saying \u00abit\u2019s nothing\u00bb when we\u2019re scared, and not asking for help, even when it\u2019s absolutely essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have learnt to give.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We give our time, energy, attention, care and love. And gradually we may find ourselves at a point where we still have something left to give to others, but nothing left for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<strong>There\u2019s one thing you can\u2019t keep doing forever \u2013 ignoring yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our needs do not simply disappear. Needs do not cease to exist just because we have stopped noticing them. Uncried tears and exhaustion do not simply vanish. Fear does not diminish just because we have learnt to hide it. Anger does not turn into love or acceptance simply because we want it to.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we ignore for a long time deep down inside doesn\u2019t just disappear. It simply looks for another way to make itself heard.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of <strong>emotional exhaustion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of <strong>chronic stress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of <strong>alarm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of <strong>burnout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through feelings: <strong>\u00abI can\u2019t do this any more.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And very often, it is precisely with these words that people first seek out a psychologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because they\u2019ve become weak \u2013 but because they\u2019ve been strong for too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The war has made \u00abstrength\u00bb almost a duty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent years have taught Ukrainians to live in a reality that is impossible to get used to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some people are woken by sirens and explosions. Some live far from home and miss their loved ones every day. Some are waiting for their loved ones to return from the front. Some are trying to build a new life in another country, not knowing when or where they will be able to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uncertainty has become part of everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in this reality, time and time again \u2013 after yet another round of shelling, after more devastating news \u2013 we tell ourselves: \u00abWe must stay strong.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It really is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if a person lives solely by this \u00abmust\u00bb, they gradually lose touch with themselves, with their own \u00abI can\u00bb, and with \u00abI want\u00bb as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is precisely through this connection that the sense of life continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So what, then, is true strength?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a very long time, we confused strength with the ability to endure anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a person is not a machine. Nor are they a tree that is meant to withstand any storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The person is alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And everything that lives gets tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Needs rest, care and the company of another person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True strength does not lie in never crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not about trying to control everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it\u2019s not even about always managing on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It begins the moment we stop being ashamed of our vulnerability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we allow ourselves to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00abIt\u2019s a bit tough for me at the moment.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00abI can\u2019t cope.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00abI need help.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These words do not make us weak \u2013 they make us alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And perhaps this is precisely where humanity\u2019s greatest strength lies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u0421\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0431\u0443\u0439\u0442\u0435 \u0434\u043e\u0437\u0432\u043e\u043b\u0438\u0442\u0438 \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0456 \u0441\u043a\u0430\u0437\u0430\u0442\u0438 &#8211; \u00ab\u042f \u0441\u043b\u0430\u0431\u043a\u0430 \u043b\u044e\u0434\u0438\u043d\u0430\u00bb. \u0429\u043e \u0432\u0438 \u0432\u0456\u0434\u0447\u0443\u043b\u0438? \u0421\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043c? \u041f\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0438\u043d\u0443? \u0421\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0445? \u0427\u0438 \u0431\u0430\u0436\u0430\u043d\u043d\u044f \u0434\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0438, \u0449\u043e \u0446\u0435 \u043d\u0435\u043f\u0440\u0430\u0432\u0434\u0430?
